In the main curtain raiser Jongspan put a superb performance in the u.21A final, beating Police 51-42. Fly half Stanley Twiname contributed 21 points wit six conversions and three penalty goals. Tuks’ tries were scored by Ruan van Rooyen (2), Hein Pretorius, Fritz Kalp, Geo Botha and Pieter Geyer.
Earlier in the day Renegades had to work hard to beat Harlequins in the fourth league final (10-7), but the u.19A team was on fire in their final against Police (31-18).
A lot of emotion preceded the u.19A-final as Tuks’ regular scrumhalf, 18 year old George Kurz, died in a car crash on Friday, 6 August. His team mates only learned of his of death the next day.
“No motivation was needed after I told the guys about George. They wanted to play and win for him. The fact that both his parents were present made it even more emotional. Our victory was a fitting tribute to a wonderful rugby player, team mate and friend,” said Corrie.
Fezelas fought back bravely in the second league final against Police and manage to narrow the gap to only 24-19. In the end Fezelas learned the hard way that you cannot survive a final by only playing catch up rugby. Police won 31-19.
