TuksRugby : UP-Tuks stay unbeaten in Carlton

Posted on July 17, 2011

It was by far the worst 40 minutes UP-Tuks have had this season. It was if there was no plan, no structure anymore and no will to land the deciding blow. They ran around like headless chickens at times, making one silly mistake after the other.

There can be no excuse for this dramatic collapse and UP-Tuks will have to know they will pay a much higher prize against stronger opponents for such clumsiness.

With all that said, UP-Tuks can still take a lot of heart from their performance in the first half when they kept to their structure. UP-Tuks scored two spectacular long distance tries that were preceded by excellent interplay between forwards and backs.

There were also solid individual performances. Peet Botma, a stalwart of many a season, had a storming game at lock and was deservedly named Man of the Match. Other players who deserve special mention are Stairs Mhlongo (lock, Forward of the Match) and Karl-Hein Schuld (left wing, Back of the Match). 20 year old Schuld is one of the hottest new prospects UP-Tuks are fortunate to have.

Schuld scored two of UP-Tuks’ five tries. The other five pointers were dotted down by right wing Dirk Dippenaar, inside centre Dabeon Draghoender and No 8 Jono van Rensburg. Wesley Dunlop (fly half) succeeded with three conversions and three penalty goals.
