TuksRugby on verge of remarkable white wash

Posted on June 11, 2013

2013 Varsity Cup champions, UP-Tuks 1 will have the toughest assignment in the first league final against Eastern Eagles, the big surprise package of the season. UP-Tuks is the only member of the Big Three not to have fallen prey to the Eagles. The Eagles had the better of both defending champions, Police and Centurion.

UP-Tuks 38-23 semi-final win against Police means a new champion will be crowned on Saturday. In the 2012 final Police beat UP-Tuks thus denying them the honour of becoming the most successful first rugby team in the history of the club. The Carlton Cup title was the only remaining silver ware still to be pocketed after UP-Tuks had already won the Varsity Cup and USSA championship title, both for the first time.

In the semi-finals, that took place at Tuks Stadium on June 8, UP-Tuks had to work hardest for their win. With only nine minutes to go, the score was still level at 23 all before UP-Tuks showed the class that distinguishes champions from mere participants. They scored 15 unanswered points to put the result beyond any doubt, winning by 38-23.
