TuksRugby: Do or die for defending VC champions

Posted on March 11, 2014

UP - Tuks have only themselves to blame for being in this unenviable position after again falling short in the tactical department on Monday night in the match against NMMU.

Like the week before it rained heavily from start to finish and the playing surface was very wet and slippery. And like against Pukke, this proved to be UP-Tuks’ downfall as they did not manage to adapt as well as the Madibaz to the extreme playing conditions.

After completion of the sixth round, NWU-Pukke top the log with 23, UCT is second with 19, NMMU third with 17 and UP - Tuks fourth (16). Maties also have 16 log points, but placed fifth because of points difference (-2 compared to UP-Tuks’ 53).

"It is not what we wanted, but the kind of pressure that distinguishes men from boys . It is fortunate that our semi-final destiny are still in our own hands and we only need a win against the Maties to show that we deserve to go through to the semi-finals for the fourth consecutive year”, commented Pote Human, head coach of UP – Tuks.

New cap Chris Massyn scored UP-Tuks’ only try. Tiaan Schoeman succeeded with two penalty goals.
