Tuks 1 led from beginning to end, but kept UJ in the game by making too many errors near their own posts. UJ scored all their points through penalty goals.
In contrast, UP scored three tries and looked consistently more dangerous on attack. Although Tuks have to contribute their victory to a great team effort, No 8 Jono Janse van Rensburg 's brilliant individual performance deserves special mention. He was deservedly named Man of the Match.
Tuks' tries were scored by Britz (fullback), Jacques Rossouw (outside center) and Willie Engelbrecht (flank). Rossouw added two conversions and three penalties whilst Clinton Swart (fly half) succeeded with a drop goal.
Tuks Jongspan only got the upper hand in extra time. Was it not for replacement fly half, Marcelle Steyn Scholtz's drop goal in the 70th minute of ordinary time, UJ would have claimed the title. This last minute drama could have contributed to the misconduct of a small group of supporters UJ, who was out for the referee’s blood.
TuksRugby will now start preparing for the Carlton League, kicking off on May 10.
