The Department of Radiography offers an undergraduate programme in Diagnostic Radiography and post graduate programmes in Diagnostic Radiography, Radiation Therapy and Nuclear Medicine. The department strives to maintain academic excellence through research in education, community engagement and field specific areas within all Radiography programmes. The department has recently embarked on community engagement projects in addition to the contribution it is already making to the professional community and patient service delivery through its diverse clinical training facilities. Radiography students receive their clinical training in facilities located in the public and private sector. The academic excellence, research and community engagement projects are driven by the department’s diverse academic staff and field experts in Mammography, Image interpretation, Interventional Radiology, Quality Management,  Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Computerised Tomography. For Radiation Therapy areas of expertise include Brachytherapy, IMRT, VMED, Total Body Photon Radiotherapy, Total Skinny Irradiation and Stereotactic Radiotherapy. For Nuclear medicine, areas of expertise include PET/CT, SPECT and SPECT/CT, Peptide Receptor Radiation Therapy as well as Thyroid imaging and treatment.

The department is continuing to grow stronger in research and publications. The department is attracting local and international applicants for the postgraduate studies in all radiography fields offered. In line with the University’s strategic goals, the departments is focussed on strengthening Africa’s professional profile and capacitate the national needs in terms of diagnostic, nuclear medicine and radiation therapy healthcare services.

The department’s core strength lies in its holistic approach and nurturing environment, which is supported by a very strong learner centred and people centred approach. Radiography learners are active participants in the management of the educational program. As part of the School of Healthcare Sciences, the staff members are also active participants in shared modules like the Integrated Healthcare Leadership and Research in Healthcare. The department encourages excellent work among students and staff.  Excellent performers’ names are handed over to faculty administration to be recognised at the relevant functions. The seal of quality and pride for the department is the Oath-taking ceremony that is organised for the students who have met all requirements for the Bachelor of Radiography degree. This event is held annually at the beginning of December.

It is through sound interpersonal relations that the department has grown to this level and is geared to achieving even greater heights.

 Thank you
