The SGD focuses its efforts in the South African context, but has also built continental and international networks of mutual interest in the fields of sexuality and gender in Psychology and mental healthcare. While the SGD has been at the forefront of developing and promoting practice guidelines for Psychology professionals working with sexually and gender-diverse people, it also works at advancing sexual and gender-affirming mental healthcare in South Africa through contributions to policy development, research, training, community engagement and activism. Dr Martin was elected alongside Chris McLachlan (as Chair), Suntosh Pillay, Pierre Brouard (also from the University of Pretoria), Juan Nel, Nkanyiso Madlala, Angeline Stephens, Sunitha Swanepoel, and Lindokuhle Ubisi, who will form the Executive Committee of the SGD for the next two years.
