Every year the Department of Paraclinical Sciences rewards its academic staff for their publication output in the previous year by transferring funds to their Development Cost Centres. The prizes are divided across the four sections to staff members with (a) the highest number of publication units and to staff members with (b) a publication in a journal with the highest impact factor (IF) in that section.
This year's winners for publications in 2019 were announced today at a special luncheon for staff members.
The respective winners in the category for the highest number of publication units were:
Pathology - Prof Emily Mitchell (0.79 units)
Veterinary Public Health - Dr Musafiri Karama (0.85 units)
Pharmacology and Toxicology - Prof Adrian Tordiffe (1 unit)
Phytomedicine - Prof Lyndy McGaw (4.79 units)
The winners each with a publication in a journal with the highest impact factor (IF):
Dr Jennie Hewlett and Prof Jan Myburgh (both Pharmacology & Toxicology) with an IF of 7.185
Prof Emily Mitchell and Dr Johan Steyl (both Pathology) with an IF of 7.185
Dr Musafiri Karama (Veterinary Public Health) with an IF of 4.011
Prof Lyndy McGaw (Phytomedicine) with an IF of 3.845
