The Department of Paraclinical Sciences, together with SanParks and Wildlifevets.com presents a wildlife chemical immobilization course twice yearly. This six day course is hosted at Nogongoni Lodge in Malelane and the Skukuza rest camp in the Kruger National Park.
It is a comprehensive hands-on CPD-registered course in safe and ethical methods of capturing wildlife through chemical immobilisation. Special attention is given to new preparations, new equipment and modified techniques. Lectures are given by specialist in the sphere of wildlife veterinary medicine. Practical sessions include planning and executing chemical immobilization of rhino, elephant, carnivore and various antelope species.
The course is restricted to registered veterinarians and veterinary students. Succesful completion of the course will award the candidate with 32 CPD points.
The upcoming course in September is fully booked with 17 veterinarians attending. The next course will be presented towards the end of March 2010.
