Check-in Sessions With the Scholars

Check In Session with the Mastercard Foundation Scholars

A comprehensive full-day session focused on diversity and inclusion

Check in sessionOn April 19th, a comprehensive full-day session focused on diversity and inclusion was held for scholars, bringing together key stakeholders and campus personnel to address critical issues. The event began with a morning check-in, specifically aimed at addressing scholars' immediate concerns, including the challenging living conditions at Tuksdorp and a significant cockroach infestation. This provided a platform for scholars to voice their experiences and seek support.

During the session, Mr. Juan Erwee from the Disability Unit delivered an educational presentation, sensitising attendees to the experiences of persons with disabilities. His insights were crucial in highlighting the need for enhanced accessibility and fostering an inclusive educational environment.

Additionally, Mr. Rowan Watson contributed with a discussion on safety and security, vital components of student life. His presentation covered existing safety protocols, identified areas for improvement, and discussed strategies to ensure a safer campus environment for all students.

The session served as a valuable opportunity for engagement and dialogue, essential for addressing the diverse needs of our scholarly community and paving the way for actionable improvements. The insights gained from this event are pivotal in guiding future initiatives to enhance inclusivity and support within the campus.
