Dr Jandeli Niemand is a Senior Lecturer in Biochemistry. She currently holds a NRF Y2 rating (effective 2018-2023). She received the Wellcome center for anti-infectives research: setting our sights on infectious diseases conference. Dundee, Scotland, May 2019 full travel grant and best poster prize as well as the L’Oreal UNESCO FWIS Sub Saharan Fellowship award, 2016.

Dr Mariëtte van der Watt focusses on the transmissible stages of the human malaria parasite, Plasmodium falciparum.  Her focus is on the discovery of transmission-blocking (T-B) antimalarials and she contributes to a comprehensive platform of assays and drug discovery knowledge. Her expertise lies in a multi multidisciplinary skill set associated with Biochemistry, Pharmacology and chemi-informatics that she applies in medicinal chemistry guided analyses of T-B compounds.
