The Department is in the fortunate position of offering a unique study programme that prepares students for qualification as actuaries or financial engineers. Specialisation in either of these fields occurs in the third year of study and continues at postgraduate level.
We pride ourselves in preparing students to compete in the actuarial workplace. As of February 2014, 240 of our alumni were qualified actuaries. Many of the large employers of actuarial students speak highly of TUKS graduates and some actively seek students from our Department.
The Department was the first to be chosen by the Actuarial Society of South Africa to apply, and be accepted, for full Exemption Accreditation from the Society’s actuarial examinations, which are being hosted by the Society from the start of 2010 and has since maintained its Level 3 Accreditation with the Society.
Our offices are situated in the oldest part of the Mathematics Building, that was constructed in 1932.
