GSTM CONGRATULATES PROFESSOR HERMAN STEYN ON RECEIVING THE COLLEGE OF PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT PROFESSOR OF THE YEAR AWARD.

This award is given to a faculty member who demonstrates excellence in teaching and has published academic papers or books in performance management, as well as for research outputs. Prof Herman Steyn is well known as a co-author (with J Nicholas) of the book Project Management for Engineering, Technology & Business, which 7th edition will be published in 2025. Various universities around the globe use this textbook, and it has been translated into languages such as Polish, Mandarin and Ukrainian. Prof Steyn initiated, in the 1990s, GSTM’s very successful Masters in Project Management (MPM) programme, as well as the continuous education Programme in Project Management (PPM) offered through Enterprises at UP (EUP). Emeritus Professor Steyn's research (including on performance management aspects such as earned value management) has been cited more than 3800 times, and he still publishes journal and conference articles.
The College of Performance Management (CPM) is a project management organization with a focus on various types of metrics and management for projects, programs, and portfolios. The objectives of CPM are:
- Improve the professional status of all persons engaged in the practice of earned value management and other project performance management techniques.
- Provide a focal point for dissemination of earned value management and project performance management knowledge.
- Promote global collaboration in project performance management practice, education and research.
- Encourage government and industry support for research and educational programmes that will improve earned value management and other project performance management techniques.
