The future of the built environment is green and innovative. Dr Schalk Grobbelaar from the Graduate School of Technology Management, in collaboration with UP Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology, York Timbers, the dti (Department of Trade and Industry: Republic of South Africa) and the Pretoria Institute for Architecture organised the second Timber Construction Colloquium, Design Competition and Conference at Future Africa.
The events aim to foster collaboration between Academia, Industry and Government to promote a prosperous and sustainable built environment, solid wood industry and forestry industry. The opportunities are transdisciplinary and require collaboration across various knowledge domains. During the events, architects, civil engineers, foresters, biotechnologists, marketers, construction managers, carpenters, property developers, engineering managers, and government officials presented their work and connected with each other. The theme of the events is: “Growing Timber Connections”. One of the main objectives of the events is to increase connectivity and collaboration between the various players.
