In this talk, Prof Ika explores the nexus between project management and grand challenges in Africa, where sociopolitical complexity is high and institutional challenges are paramount. He suggests that, despite a shared overarching concern for organizing work and delivering change, project management and grand challenges are unlikely intellectual bedfellows confronted with temporal tensions. Prof Ika construes grand challenge projects as processes of pursuit, experimentation, and discovery and thus takes issue with the classical definition of projects as endeavours to produce a pre-defined product, service or result.
