Management of Technology and Innovation is a growing field of study, research and application. For many workers in this relatively new field of knowledge, it is vital to understand its beginnings, the motivations and the imperatives that made many people in the US first and later all over the world pursue it as an independent entity. The factors that led to this are ingrained in historical events that will be briefly summarised.

The presentation will also show the evolution of technologies that changed the world and have been accelerated at the turn of the century. It asserts that their proper management can make a difference in assuring survival, competitiveness, sustainability, economic growth and prosperity.
