Three Masters students were offered the opportunity to visit Norway for a three-week exchange course through the GSTM’s Masters in Technology and Innovation Management program. This opportunity was made possible through the Norwegian funded Intpart project which involves a collaboration between University of Pretoria (UP) and the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU).
The intensive exchange course focused on sustainable entrepreneurship and was centred around solving real-life problems from real-life companies. The framework for the problem solving focused on using the business canvas model and students had to conduct interviews and visit building prototypes (to name a few) to obtain insights. The course gave the students a different perspective as to what it means to be an entrepreneur and it was eye-opening to be exposed to this different model of teaching and “learning by doing”. The students also had some time to explore Norway’s tourism highlights. Over and above the experiences and memories created, one of the invaluable parting gifts from the program were the connections and friendships made with fellow South African students and our host Norwegian students. These connections are priceless and will last a lifetime.
