Virtual Public Seminar on 23 November: MANAGING RESILIENCE AND SUSTAINABILITY OF ENGINEERED ASSET SYSTEMS, Prof Joe Amadi-Echendu

Posted on November 17, 2021

You are invited to attend a Virtual Public Seminar, hosted by the Department of Engineering and Technology Management, Graduate School of Technology Management.

There is increasing understanding of the need to operationalise resiliency and sustainability for socio-economic inclusivity, liberal politics and sustainable development. The lecture will provide a brief review of the twinned concepts of resilience and sustainability from a number of perspectives. The conceptual model is that hyper interconnected and interdependent socio-economic-political cyber physical systems are inextricably interwoven within the environment and ecology. Thus, the composite engineered asset systems not only contain inherent vulnerabilities but also, they are subjected to supervening transient, intransigent and evolutionary stressors emanating from normal and extraordinary socio-economic-political actions, casus fortuitus and other vis major events. The lecture will expound an argument on the paramountcy of managing of engineered asset systems that underpin, facilitate, and accelerate the fusing of socio-economic activity and socio-political endeavour within the world of environment and ecology, albeit via digitalised platforms that encompass technological evolutions of cyber physical artefacts.
