Although the whole world is currently suffering under the Covid-19 pandemic and restrictions, GSTM academics and students worked together to make sure the academic year continues. 

The GSTM Department hosted its first Virtual Symposium for the Master’s Degree Students on the 8^th May.  Students from all three master’s programmes participated in the symposium which was presented in 3 parallel sessions, each session having its own Chair, supervisors and examiners.  The overall feedback from the participants were very positive.  Going forward, virtual symposiums will not only save valuable time and money, but will definitely form part of the way in which the learning environment adapt to the future.

The first semester’s examinations also took place during the past week and traditional examinations were replaced by online examination assessments. Due to the uniqueness of the GSTM modules different assessments were made used of, which resulted from excellent collaboration between GSTM lecturers and UP’s Department of Education Innovation. Technology could be employed successfully to the benefit of our students in order to meet all the original semester timelines.
