GSTM hosts public lecture by leading Japanese scholar, Prof. Masafumi Nagao, on Africa-Asia development cooperation

On Tuesday 16 July 2019, the Graduate School of Technology Management (GSTM) in collaboration with the Center for Japanese Studies (CJS) at the University of Pretoria hosted a public lecture on new innovative forms of Africa-Asia cooperation.

Prof. Masafumi Nagao, a leading scholar on international development cooperation, argued that Africa and Asia should engage in partnerships that will enable the two continents to address shared global challenges through practical research and innovation. He proposed actions for university-industry-government partnerships that will build a generation of African and Asian leaders to promote mutually beneficial sustainable development.

Ambassadors Nario Maruyama and Park Jong-dae representing Japan and South Korea respectively in South Africa, Dr. Futhi Mtoba the Chairperson of the University’s Council, and academics and policy-makers attended the event that was opened by Prof. Sunil Maharaj, Dean of the University’s Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology (EBIT).
