It is my pleasure to announce that Professor Elma van der Lingen will assume the duties of HOD in the Department of Engineering and Technology Management with effect from 1 October 2016.

Professor van der Lingen has a PhD in Material Science and Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Pretoria. She has held research/teaching posts at the University of Pretoria as an Associate Professor on a contract basis after which she was permanently appointed as Professor in the Department. Professor van der Lingen takes over as Head of Department from Professor Tinus Pretorius, who has successfully held the post for the past sixteen years. The Faculty would like to congratulate and welcome Professor van der Lingen on her new post and as well as thank and commend Professor Tinus Pretorius for his sterling work, leadership and the achievements accomplished during his tenure as Head of Department. I am sure the EBIT Faculty and the Department of Engineering and Technology Management will give Prof van der Lingen their support and co-operation in taking the department to new heights.

Prof Pretorius and the department have together created a wonderful legacy, one which I know you can all be very proud of. Prof van der Lingen joins at a wonderful point in the development of the department and its vision amongst others, to being globally competitive. I am sure we can expect a whole series of new innovative developments will emerge, consistent with the achievement of excellence that has become the hallmark for the team within the Department of Engineering and Technology Management.
