Artificial Intelligence, Project Management Maturity and the Project Management Office

Projects are essential for growth and economic prosperity. However, studies have shown that approximately 30% of all projects still miss deadlines, incur cost overruns, or do not meet quality standards. Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to significantly improve these odds.

AI can help manage risks and complexity, making it more likely to achieve project goals effectively and reliably. A number of studies have examined the use of AI in specific project management tasks, such as forecasting, cost estimation, and schedule management. These studies have shown that hybrid AI can perform well in cost estimation and risk calculations. By carefully selecting and implementing appropriate AI systems, organisations and project managers can greatly enhance value delivery.

This research aims to explore how AI can help organisations achieve their desired level of project management maturity and how machine learning can assist project management offices in performing their activities more efficiently.
