Project-based environments are complex due to the sequential and/or concurrent execution of multiple projects utilising multiple temporary teams within or across organisations. This discontinuous and temporary nature of teams creates challenges for the rapid assimilation of new knowledge. Therefore, knowledge management in projects is an active topic in project management research and has attracted attention from practitioners and academic scholars.
Research in the field of knowledge management in projects focuses on elements and factors that influence the sharing and use of knowledge along the knowledge network in and between projects. Topics include the mediating and moderating effects of knowledge transfer mechanism, the effect and use of AI in knowledge sharing, the measurement of knowledge use and subsequent effect on project success, knowledge sharing and use in agile and other project environments, knowledge capturing at stage-gates, lessons learned and post-project learning, knowledge sharing processes and models, etc.
