University of Pretoria REASSURED Diagnostics Research Group

The University of Pretoria REASSURED Diagnostics (REASSURED-d@UP) research group was founded by Prof Tivani Mashamba-Thompson in 2021. This group was established to bring together a group of researchers, developers, implementers, methodologists, postdoctoral fellows and PhD and Masters students working on research that is aimed at optimising the implementation of point-of-care diagnostics for resource-limited settings and underserved populations guided from the REASSURED criteria. The REASSURED criteria refers to Real-time connectivity, Ease of sample collection, Affordable, Sensitive, Specific, User-friendly, Rapid and robust, Equipment-free or simple and Delivered to end-users. 

 

This group collaborates with researchers in the following local and international institutions: University of KwaZulu-Natal; Stellenbosch University (South Africa); McMasters University; McGill University (Canada); University of Washington (US) and; Edinburgh University (UK). 

 

Mission of REASSURED-d@UP 

To create a platform for point-of-care diagnostics researchers, developers, implementers and policymakers to collaborate in conducting research aimed at advancing evidence-based development and implementation of point-of-care diagnostics for resource-limited settings and underserved populations.

 

Vision of REASSURED-d@UP

Producing high-quality research to guide the development and implementation of REASSURED point-of-care diagnostics in order to improve the health outcomes in resource-limited settings and among underserved populations.
