Gauteng Women Excellent Award for Prof Saloshna Vandeyar

Professor Saloshna Vandeyar from the Department of Humanities Education won the Gauteng Women in Excellence Award in the category "Trail Blazer" at the Inaugural Gauteng Women in Excellence Awards ceremony that was held at the Women's Living Heritage Monument on the 8 March 2018.

This function coincided with International Women's Day. The theme for this inaugural Gauteng Woman in Excellence Awards was "Taking Gauteng Region forward: #PressforProgress: Nelson Mandela and Albertina Sisulu Centenary".  Of 189 applications received, 36 applicants became finalists for the Gauteng Woman in Excellence Awards. 

The awards consisted of 12 categories and the Premier's discretionary awards. Professor Vandeyar won in the category Trail Blazer - A female achiever in a traditionally male-dominated industry and has broken the gender role stereotypes and is an inspiration to young woman.
