Prof Ramodikoe Marishane

Nylon Marishane started his career in the higher education sector as a Senior Lecturer in the School of Education at the University of Venda (Univen) in 2009 after serving as a teacher, a school Head of Department, and a school principal before then. He moved to the University of Pretoria (UP) in 2015 to serve as a Senior Lecturer and later an Associate Professor in the Department of Education Management and Policy Studies, Faculty of Education. He acquired experience in school leadership coupled with extensive research and publication in this field.

He has published and co-published four academic books on school leadership, the most recent of which is Contextual Intelligence in School Leadership. His interests lie in education management, educational leadership, and education policy, and he has published journal articles on these topics.

He delivered academic papers at ten international conferences on five continents (China, Australia, Italy, Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, Rwanda and the USA). Nylon’s research involves studying the connection between leadership theory and contextual intelligence. His current study focuses on how principals can lead schools intelligently in a volatile, unpredictable, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) context.
