Jim Spinks's visit to the University of Pretoria in 2010

19 and 26 February 2010: 15:00 to 18:00, lecture theatre L5 in the Lecture Building, Faculty of Education, University of Pretoria Groenkloof Campus, corner Leyds and George Storrar Streets, Groenkloof, Pretoria

He will deal with current issues, research and debates regarding educational leadership including what it is capable of achieving and what not as will as what is the single  most important objective a school should pursue. The lectures will be identical 

On 26 February he will also  take part in a morning session of the Gauteng branch of the South African Principals' Association (for more details contact Ms Almarie van Zyl at [email protected])
 
On 27 February he will be conducting two sessions:
09:00 - 12:00, lecture theatre L9 in the Lecture Building, Faculty of Education, University of Pretoria Groenkloof Campus, corner Leyds and George Storrar Streets, Groenkloof, Pretoria
 
This is a more practical and hands on like how do I assess the effectiveness  of my school and my own effectiveness as a leader, what do I do with the problems and challenges that I identify, how do I get the whole community to support the school, how will I know that  the school has been successfully turned around, what is the one most important objective a school should pursue
 
13:00 - 16:00,  room F202, Lecture Building, Faculty of Education, University of Pretoria Groenkloof Campus, corner Leyds and George Storrar Streets, Groenkloof, Pretoria
 
This session is primarily meant for  for M Ed students and Mr Spinks will work from their latest book (Raising the Stakes), including issues such as what is the most important objective a school should pursue, how does a principal do formal and informal research (the art of getting information in unusual ways), making sense of information, using finances skilfully, belonging to a network and include issues like
