New Head for the Department of Education Management and Policy Studies

Professor Sehoole has obtained tertiary qualifications from the former University of the North, the University of the Witwatersrand and the University of Essex. He obtained his PhD-degree in 2002 with a thesis entitled ‘Changing the wheel while the car is moving: restructuring the apartheid education departments’.

From April 2007 – March 2008 he was the Chief Director for Higher Education Planning and Management Support and between April 2008 and March 2010 he was the Chief Director for Higher Education Policy and Development Support. Both positions were seconded positions from the University of Pretoria. In April 2010 Professor Sehoole returned as associate professor to the Faculty of Education at UP.

Professor Sehoole has been awarded the Rockefeller Post-doctoral fellowship (2003/04), the Fulbright New Century Scholar Fellowship (2005/06), the NRF Post-doctoral Fellowship and the Exceptional Young Researcher Award of the University of Pretoria (2004). He currently enjoys a C2-rating by the National Research Foundation.

Most prominent amongst Professor Sehoole’s influential publications, is his book publication, ‘Democratising Higher Education Policy: constraints of reform in post-apartheid South Africa’ – published in 2005 by Routledge and Falmer in New York. 

As Head of Department for Education Management and Policy Studies, Professor Sehoole will continue to build on a long history of excellence in scholarship and teaching in this department. The Department of Education Management and Policy Studies is home to more than 16 000 students in Distance Education and it has recently also extended its undergraduate involvement in the B Ed programmes.
