ISER members the University of Pretoria (South Africa), the University of Kentucky (USA), the University of Jyvaskyla (Finland) and East China Normal University (China) meet annually to discuss education reform and the agenda for improved cooperation and education development in and between the four member countries. This year’s theme was ‘School Leadership – Exploring the roles of principals, teachers, students and parents in implementing Next generation Schools’.
Prof Johan Beckmann, Prof Rika Joubert, Drs. Vimbi Mahlangu, Mogadi Mohlakwana, Keshni Bipath and Sharon Mampane, as well as Jean van Rooyen, Eric Eberlein, Jorrie Jordaan and Ben Badenhorst attended on behalf of the department and were glad to be accompanied by several guests from among others the Universities of Johannesburg, Venda and also FEDSAS.
The papers presented by participants from the four countries sparked interested and enthusiastic debate and the general feeling among participants at the end of the conference was that the quality and depth of presentation would be hard to find almost anywhere else in the education reform world.
Prof Beckmann’s conference summation created the perfect springboard for the 8th ISER Conference to be hosted by the University of Kentucky in 2012.
