Prof Heinrich Bohlmann, Associate Professor in the Department of Economics, recently delivered his Presidential Address at the 2023 Economic Society of South Africa conference. Prof Bohlmann served as ESSA President for the 2021-2023 term. The address, titled The Cost of Going Nowhere Slowly, gives a sombre but informative overview of the South African economy, and quantifies the costs of some of our economic and political missteps over the last decade, in particular those associated with the state capture era.
