Professor Philip Adams, director of the Centre of Policy Studies (CoPS) at Monash University and internationally recognised CGE modeller, is visiting the Department of Economics from 8-12 September 2008.  His visit forms part of a joint project undertaken by the Department of Economics, ASSET Research and CoPS under the auspices of National Treasury and AusAid.  

The project aims to assess the impact of a generation tax on electricity, as announced by the Minister of Finance in the 2008 Budget speech, on the international competitiveness of the South African economy.  Professor Adams’ expertise is not only used in modelling the scenario’s as requested by National Treasury, but he is also interacting with graduate students in a capacity transfer drive.
