Professor from Rome visits the Department of Economics

On 13 July 2012 the Department of Economics welcomed Maria Christina Marcuzzo, Professor of Political Economy at the University La Sapienza in Rome. Her visit was aimed at establishing research relationships between the two institutions and an exchange programme of staff and postgraduate students. The visit was facilitated by the Italian Institute of Culture in Pretoria.

Top researcher visits the Department of Economics

Prof Eckhard Janeba from Mannheim University in Germany, who is Chief Editor of the A-rated journal International Tax and Public Finance, was the Department of Economics’ guest from 23 July to 4 August 2012. He is one of the current generation’s star researchers in the world of public economics and therefore on the cutting edge of advances in his field. He will teach in the OWE 880 (Public Economics) programme but is also an expert in most areas of macro and micro theory.

Economics Professor from Turkey visits the Department of Economics

Mehmet Balcilar, Professor and Head of the Department of Economics at the Eastern Mediterranean University in Turkey, is visiting the Department of Economics for a period of six weeks from 23 July 2012. During his visit, Prof Balcilar will be delivering lectures on non-linear econometrics in the Advanced Macroeconomic class (EKN 823). He will also be delivering a seminar on his recent work on 27 August 2012. In addition, he will be completing a set of projects that himself and Prof Rangan Gupta have been working on together.
