The aim of the series is to promote a research culture in the Department. It is attended by the staff members of the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences as well as master’s and PhD students.

There are two kinds of series, namely seminars and brownbags. Seminars are mostly reserved for external researchers. The speaker at the most recent seminar was Prof David Lam from the University of Michigan, who gave a presentation entitled "Credit constraints and the racial gap in post-secondary education in South Africa". Brownbag series are informal presentations for staff members of the Faculty and the PhD students of the Department of Economics.
