Vividus Men Sports

Vividus Men, one of the strongest sporting Day House, has made a real success of all the various sports we compete in. Vividus Men offer all its members the opportunity to participate in the sporting codes the university’s sport affiliations has to offer.

Lately Vividus Men has had a big success with Basketball, winning both the senior and junior league numerous times, these past years. It has allowed Vividus Men to have a sport where they can keep their success and use as a launching pad, to achieve more successes in other sport. We finished 2nd in the basketball league.

Rugby is also one of the big sports we offer at Vividus Men. At the university, we participate in franchise rugby, meaning we get partnered up with another residence to participate in the league. For this year and the next year we are partnered with Taaibos. We have two teams participating; one u/20 team, and one team in the 2nd league.

As with basketball, there are also a league for first years, and later on in the year, a league for seniors, with soccer. Soccer, however, also offers a third league, known as the Super 8; which is a league consisting of the previous year’s top 8 teams.

In terms of cricket, Vividus Men partake in two leagues annually; namely, the six-a-side tournament, as well as the T20-league. The T20 league is played on Mondays and Sundays, whereas the six-a-side is only played on Sundays. Vividus Men are also starting to organise day/night T20 matches as friendlies.

Tennis is one of the newest leagues to have been started at the hostel leagues. Although it is still new, we have already stated ourselves as one of the biggest names in hostel tennis. We finished 2nd in the tennis league.

This year, it has been decided to change the old athletics tournament, known as IenkAthletics (only for first years), into an event open for the whole House. There will be different levels of league, depending on the size and quality of your team. This tournament will be held in the 2nd semester.

Not one of the biggest events, but certainly one of the best organised ones; badminton has surprised many in the level of efficiency. The event is open to the whole House and the players play as a pair. This year, one of our teams made it through to the quarterfinals.

Seen as one of the most fun sport, Vividus Men also participate in Netball. At the start of the year, there is a league known as Mixed-Valentines Netball; where you team up with your RAG partners to make a team. There is both a senior and a junior league. This year our senior team won 4 out of their 5 matches. A new addition to the netball league has been that there will be a men’s league this year.

Hockey is also a sport that Vividus Men has had success in, in recent years. There are two levels to this league; a premier league and a 1st Division. This year the premier league will be played on astro and we have a team participating in both leagues. In 2015, we finished 3rd in the league.

Some other sports still to happen this year are:

  • Volleyball (indoor with a team of 6)
  • Squash (teams consist of 3 players and one reserve)
  • Chess
  • Swimming (a one evening gala event)
