We had a culture evening with Huis Katjiepiering. This social event was focussed on teaching the guests
about a certain culture and in this case it was about French Gypsies. We go about teaching everyone
about the culture in a series of different events that are based around the culture itself. In this specific
case, events such as wine tasting, palm reading, fire dancing and a café with different types of coffee
was organised. We even had a DJ that played Gypsy-type music, which helped bringing the theme to life.
We decorated Huis Katjiepiering’s mess hall and foyer to look like the stereotypical living arrangements
of drifting Gypsies. This includes draped material with candle light creating an eerie vibe which is typical
in a Gypsy camp. All in all it was a successful night as many of the guests had only good things to say
about the event.
