“Uthando: Four Stories and Still Acts” is lightly guided by the idea of love. Love as relation, love as loss, love as life and all its endless associations. This physical theatre performance brings together four stories, two East African folktales and two excerpts from Song of Lawino by the highly acclaimed African poet Okot p’Bitek. Although loosely woven around these texts, the performance investigates how story-ness emerges from the body itself, without predetermined stories. What does the body reveal through its relation to the space, its relation to time and its relation to others, both animate and inanimate?
The performance is directed by Kristina Johnstone. Acting has been coached by Rian Terblanche and Gulafsha Sayed, Singing by Nthabiseng Motsepe-Notyesi, and Body/Voice Integration by Isana Maseko.
