Investigation Component

The Investigation Component deals holistically with all criminal activities occurring on the various UP campuses, as well as on the periphery of the University. The Component also examines incidents of misconduct by staff and students that usually leads to cases being referred to a disciplinary committee for finalisation.

The Investigation Component further assists with and facilitates victim support to persons traumatised by criminal activity.

Crime prevention also falls under the auspices of the Investigation Component, where strategies, such as first years’ student orientation, personnel orientation, security briefings to resident students and international students are just a few ways in which patrons are sensitised to minimise incidents of crime on the various campuses.

To this end, the Investigation Component works in close conjunction with all the relevant role players, such as the SAPS, security companies, Hatfield City Improvement District (CID), Hatfield Community Court, the Department of Student Affairs, and other organisations. The common goal of their activities is to ensure a stable and secure work and study environment.
