Posted on April 30, 2025

The Department of Library Services hosted the Research, Teaching, and Learning Forum from 31 March to 2 April 2025, bringing together leading academics, practitioners, and innovators to explore the intersection of knowledge, research, and innovation. This hybrid forum served as a key platform for advancing academic dialogue in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.

Under the theme “EmpowerED: Navigating Knowledge, Research, and Innovation,” the forum showcased the library’s role in supporting students and researchers through advanced resources, digital tools, AI integration, and expert guidance. Key topics included the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on academia, Open Science, and aligning research with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The event illustrated how education and technology are transforming scholarly work. AI emerged as a central theme, with experts discussing its influence on teaching, learning, data analysis, and intellectual property. These sessions helped participants understand how to leverage AI ethically and effectively to enhance productivity and innovation.

Open Science was another major focus. The Scholarly Communication team introduced platforms like UPSpace and Figshare, promoted responsible data management, and emphasized the university’s support for open-access publishing.

The forum also stressed the importance of aligning research with the sustainable development goals. Sessions on evidence synthesis and sustainable leadership encouraged research with real-world impact, reinforcing UP’s role in driving both local and global development goals. Contributions from local and international experts enriched the discussions and affirmed UP’s commitment to excellence in research and teaching.

As knowledge landscapes continue to evolve, forums like this are vital - not only equipping the academic community with current tools but preparing them for future challenges. The event reflected UP’s dedication to empowering its community through knowledge, innovation, and collaboration.
