The Library Hosts Delegation from Portugal

The executive management team of the Department of Library Services on Wednesday, 26 March 2025, met with their Excellencies the Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs and Collaboration, Mr. Nuno Sampaio and the Portuguese Ambassador, Mr Carlos Costa Neves. Others in attendance included Mr. Joel Coelho and Mr. Miguel Coelho, head and deputy head, respectively, of the Camões, I.P. Education Department, as well as Ms. Carla Valente de Abreu from the Department of Ancient and Modern Languages and Cultures at UP.

The department offers Portuguese foreign language classes, and the relationship between the library and the department has led to several collaborative exhibitions, to highlight the culture and literary heritage of Portugal and other Lusophone countries.

Library Director, Ms. Lindiwe Soyizwapi welcomed the delegation to the library, where a display had been prepared of literary works in Portuguese, library materials for teaching Portuguese, rare Portuguese books included in the library’s special collections, and of books representing Portuguese around the world.

The meeting ended with conversations about future collaborations.
