Welcome - Boitumelo Mahlangu

Boitumelo Mahlangu has been appointed as an Information Officer in the Music Library at the Department of Library Services. She was born and raised in Pretoria, where she also completed her matric. During her university years at this very institution, Boitumelo worked as a contract student library assistant at the Medical Library, serving both the Dental and HW Snyman libraries. "I’m truly grateful for that opportunity, as it sparked a career shift and ignited my passion for libraries", she says.

Boitumelo holds a degree in Town and Regional Planning from this institution. She has a strong technical background, with trade test qualifications in Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current), Mechanical Engineering (Diesel), and Air Conditioning & Refrigeration. She developed this expertise during her time in the military, where she served as an electro-mechanical artisan.

1. Are you an early bird or night owl?

I am a night owl. I am more productive in the still of the night.

2. What behaviour or personality trait do you most attribute your success to, and why?

Patience. If I didn't have patience, I would've dropped out of university a long time ago. I struggled with one module for years.

3. What's the best advice you were given? Who was it from?

My mother once said: "Do not expect anything from anyone. Do it yourself to avoid disappointments".

4. Who would play you in a movie about your life?

Angelina Jolie, simply because of her adventurous movie scenes in Tomb Raider & Mr & Mrs Smith. I have a family life which was previously mixed with being a soldier and an academic at the same time.

5. What's your favourite sport to watch and which team do you root for?

Cricket. I support the Proteas.

6.What's your most used emoji?

Hearts. The least we can do as humans is to spread some love.
