The Special Collections Book of the Week this week is:
Namaqualand: A Succulent Desert by Richard Cowling and Shirley Pierce, photography by Colin Paterson-Jones.
Namaqualand—an extraordinary desert that harbours a range of succulent plants beyond compare. It boasts a bulb flora richer than that of any other arid region, and provides a springtime display of annual flowers that draws thousands of admirers every season. Some 3000 diverse and intriguing plant species exist in this unusual landscape, representing a botanical marvel to rival the fynbos of the fames Cape Floral Kingdom.
