The Knowledge Nexus: A Thriving Hub of Learning, Support, and Collaboration

Posted on December 10, 2024

The Learning Centre once again proved to be a thriving, energetic hub where learning, support, and resources came together in a vibrant and interconnected way during the second semester. It continues to be a space of constant movement, engagement, and growth—a collaborative environment where stakeholders come together to empower, innovate, teach, and learn. The following initiatives highlight these achievements:

Reaching Out to Student Leaders

We held a meeting with academic student coaches from the EMS and Humanities faculties, as well as tutors, to discuss the role of the Department of Library Services (DLS) and its products and services. This meeting laid the foundation for further collaboration in 2025.

Our partnership with Student Affairs also evolved significantly, culminating in an invitation to present to the newly elected Academic Portfolio House Committee members on 4 October 2024. Shortly thereafter, we engaged with the new SRC in a brainstorming session on 23 October 2024. Sixteen members participated, generating innovative ideas for 2025.

The session ended with a visit to the MakerSpace, where SRC members explored virtual reality and 3D printing. These interactive experiences strengthened relationships and paved the way for lasting partnerships.

Fun and Prizes Before Exams

The Learning Centre ended the year on a high note by organizing two competitions that gave students the chance to relax and win prizes before the stress of exams began:

1. Kumospace Competition: Students participated in a virtual maze to explore the library’s products and services in an engaging and enjoyable way. Abigail Sebola shared her experience, stating:

“I hope this email finds you well. I would like to thank you for the virtual office experience. I learned a lot about the library’s website and the services it offers. The games were also really fun. I particularly enjoyed the one about finding books in the library, as it was both informative and engaging. I would love to participate again in the future.”

2. Library Reels Competition: Students created reels showcasing their favorite spots in the library. These reels not only demonstrated the library as a vibrant, welcoming space but also turned students into library ambassadors. Two winners received external hard drives as prizes.

The Learning Centre remains committed to reaching out to students, fostering partnerships, and promoting the DLS’s products and services. We aim to contribute to academic excellence and success as we continue to innovate and collaborate in 2025
