The Department of Library Services organized a two-day Emerging Researcher and Postgraduate Workshop, geared towards empowering emerging researchers and postgraduate students with essential skills and knowledge to elevate their research pursuits. Held on 10 – 11 April, the workshop served as a platform for learning, collaboration, and skill development.

The event was conducted in a hybrid format, accommodating both in-person attendance at the Research Commons of the Groenkloof Campus Library and online participation via Zoom. Throughout the two days, participants delved into various topics vital for research success, including literature search techniques, citation management, journal selection, research data management, and methods to enhance research visibility.

Expert presentations, interactive discussions, and hands-on activities enriched the learning experience, allowing participants to engage deeply with the subject matter. Interaction with seasoned researchers and Information Specialists provided invaluable insights and resources, supporting participants in their research journey.

From navigating copyright issues to mastering Endnote for referencing and refining article formatting using MS Word, the workshop covered critical aspects of the research process comprehensively. Sessions on research data management (RDM), journal selection, and identifying predatory journals equipped participants with practical tools and strategies essential for successful academic publishing.

The workshop further emphasised the significance of research visibility and collaboration. Sessions on author citation analysis and identifying suitable research partners underscored the importance of enhancing research impact and fostering productive collaborations within academic communities.

The success of the workshop owes much to the expertise of the presenters, the active participation of the attendees, and the collaborative efforts of the organising team. By bringing together emerging researchers, postgraduate students, and seasoned professionals, the workshop cultivated a dynamic learning environment conducive to knowledge sharing and networking.

As we reflect on the workshop's accomplishments, we extend heartfelt appreciation to all participants, presenters, and organisers for their invaluable contributions to making this event a resounding success. Looking ahead, we are committed to building on this momentum and continuing our steadfast support for the research endeavours of our academic community.
