Advanced IBM SPSS Workshops

In September, the Research Commons hosted not one, but two insightful and engaging advanced IBM SPSS Workshops at the Merensky 2 Library on Saturday, the 16 September 2023. The first session was held from 9:30-12:30, followed by a second three-hour session from 13:00 to 16:00. It was a day that brought the curious minds of postgraduates together from diverse fields, all eager to dive into the realm of data analysis.

Led by our Research Commons Junior Information Assistant Officer, Lehlogonolo Tabana, these workshops provided more than just an instructional session; they equipped researchers with the knowledge and skills to harness the potential of IBM SPSS. Together, we embarked on a voyage through the world of statistical analysis and explored the power of this industry-standard software. From the very basics of creating and editing data files to the intricacies of running advanced statistical tests like Two-Way ANOVA and t-tests, participants were transformed from novices into confident analysts, ready to apply their newfound knowledge to their research endeavours.

What truly stood out during these workshops was the overwhelming response and excitement from the UP Postgraduate community. We were thrilled to see 50 postgraduates register for these sessions, showcasing the commitment to expanding one’s skillset to advance their research capabilities. We extend our gratitude to all who participated and made these workshops a resounding success! We were inspired by the engagement of participants, witnessing interdisciplinary learning as all faculties were in attendance. It is a testament to our mission of fostering knowledge and sharing among researchers.
