Unlock the power of data with advanced IBM SPSS at the OP Research Commons: Dive deeper into data analysis

Posted on November 07, 2023

An advanced IBM SPSS training session took place on 21 October 2023 at the Onderstepoort (OP) campus. This was a follow-up session to the SPSS basic session held in June. The session was led by Lehogolono Tabana from the Hatfield campus. He presented statistical analysis tests such as Cross-Tabulation, Mean Test, Bivariate Correlation, Regression, t-test and ANOVA. He was assisted by Research Commons personnel: Khomotso, Naledi, Lesego and Meisie. Practical examples were used during the presentation, allowing students to engage by analyzing the provided data. From the analysis, the participants were able to generate data in terms of pie charts, graphs, correlation tables, statistical significance and standard errors.

Overall, the session was a success with 17 postgraduate students participating and engaging with the presenter. All postgraduate students have given positive feedback since the event and have suggested similar training sessions in the future e.g., R Studio.

We appreciate Myleen, the library manager for organizing the event and refreshments. We would also like to thank Lesego and the team from Hatfield Research Commons for the training session support and presentation and everyone who attended the training. Such training sessions are important in enhancing data analysis skills where students will be able to analyze and interpret data effectively. Moreover, it can lead to better grades on research projects.

Keep a sharp lookout for more workshops on data training hosted by the Research Commons.
