The DLS Spring Quiz Night: The ultimate way to have fun, partner and collaborate

Posted on November 06, 2023

The Learning Centre initiated and hosted the very first Quiz Night on 20 October 2023. It started with a coffee and discussion with Ms Zeenat Patel, who is the outgoing SRC member for Academics for faculty houses. The outgoing and newly elected academic SRC and House Committee members of the nine faculty houses competed against each other in the exciting quizzes. The DLS decided to partner and have a very special and unforgettable Spring-themed Quiz night event.

More than 50 students registered and had fun while they learned about the library. The attendees were divided into 8 groups. Three quiz sessions on general knowledge as well as library-related questions were presented. The students were very excited. They had lots of fun participating and marking the answer sheets of another group. There were snack packs and games like Twister and Jenga for fun in between the sessions. The Photobooth with props like hats, and big sunglasses added another enjoyable dimension to the evening. Students paraded to get the prize for the best-dressed candidate. They danced to the beat of music and blew vuvuzelas when they answered the questions correctly. Balloons were popped to find a secret message and to win a prize.  All these activities contributed to an awesome evening where students had so much fun and learned about the library.

The students were asked to write some suggestions on how the DLS could improve their service offerings to students. Many asked for more quiz nights, more Kahoot sessions, movie nights, and poetry evenings. We are looking forward to expanding and having lots of fun with students in 2024. Our aim will remain to raise awareness and communicate the products and services offered by the DLS to students through fun events like these. After every event, students realise they have had fun AND they know more about the library and its purpose.
