Heritage Day, a revered South African public holiday celebrated on September 24th, carries a profound significance. It calls upon all South Africans to embrace and honour their cultural roots, beliefs, and traditions within the broader framework of a nation that values its diverse population.
To mark this special day, the Marketing Office extended an invitation to the dedicated staff members of the Department of Library Services. They were encouraged to proudly showcase their traditional attire, a tangible reflection of the vibrant tapestry of our heritage.
On Friday 22 September 2023, staff members got together to celebrate Heritage Day in grand style. This occasion offered a unique opportunity to capture captivating images of our colleagues adorned in their traditional clothing, symbolizing the rich mosaic of our cultural heritage.
In a heartwarming display of unity, 24 enthusiastic staff members enthusiastically took part, representing an array of cultural backgrounds, including Tshivenda, Sepedi, Xhosa, Zulu, Tswana, Afrikaner/Voortrekker, and Muslim traditions.
We collected some quotes from some of the stylish staff members and here is what they had to say about the day's celebrations:
The Marketing Office extends its heartfelt gratitude to everyone who wholeheartedly embraced this celebration of diversity. As we look forward to the future, we hope to make this a cherished tradition, ensuring that the spirit of Heritage Day lives on in our department year after year. Together, we proudly honour our shared heritage and the beautiful tapestry of cultures that make South Africa the extraordinary nation it is.
