The Merged Library Engines

Posted on August 29, 2023

If the library was a sport, Access and Lending would surely be Formula 1. So, in Formula 1, if you take two V8 engines and merge them, you are most certainly going to get what we would call a W16 super performance engine, a very powerful engine. This would be an engine like no other and would surely outperform any racing sports car.

The merging of the Inter-Library Loans (ILL) team with the Access and Lending team is a very profound and momentous decision by Exco. The team is now located in one office on level 2, with 3 staff members in the office carrying out ILL, administrative duties and the inventory project and another area of 3 staff members who are at the circulation desk carrying out enquiries, circulation, access, ILL and inventory project duties as well. This is on a rotational basis.

This in its very nature has not only created great learning opportunities for staff members in the team but is a classic example of how teams can successfully collaborate to enhance efficiency, improve the turnaround time for our clients and offer excellent services. The W16 engine has been fueled up, ready to roar and take the library to new dimensions.

Another interesting part of our duties, which we have mastered so well in a short space of time, is to give directions and answers as to when the library will ‘Get Well Again...’ due to the current construction in the Merensky 2 Library!

The new interlending staff members.
