The Medical Library's Impactful Participation in UP Giving Day Fundraising Event

Posted on August 25, 2023

In August 2023, the Medical Library team embarked on a remarkable journey of supporting the #UPGIVINGMATTERS event. As ambassadors for this extraordinary event, we are delighted to share the highlights of our efforts and the incredible impact we have achieved together.

The UPGiving Day fundraising event took place in the vibrant atmosphere of the Prinshof campus on 3 August 2023. The primary objective of this event was to raise funds for the missing middle students, demonstrating the library’s commitment to both education and community engagement. It served as a platform for staff, students, and the community at large to come together and contribute towards a meaningful cause. Our stall was adorned with informative mini leaflets and displays highlighting the library’s role in education and research. The stall was set up strategically to offer information, engage with visitors, and collect donations.

One of the standout features of our fundraising event that attracted students to our dedicated stall was the captivating stick-man game that stole the spotlight. Our active and creative stick-man presenter, Constance Tshiping engaged participants in an exciting challenge of guessing words related to our library. The questions were centred around the theme “How well do you know your library”. Each correct letter guessed led to a celebration and goodies for the participants. This added an element of fun and joy to the stand. The library staff’s participation added vibrant scenes showcasing their dedication to making a positive impact on the lives of students.

Richard Mbokane, another key contributor, was busy ensuring that every moment was recorded. His photography skills captured the essence of the event, preserving the joy and enthusiasm of our participants. He also made sure that every participant was a winner by handing out stress balls as a delightful treat for everyone.

The results of our collective efforts are staggering. The library, together with the Faculty of Health Sciences, other departments, and the community at large, raised an impressive amount of R13,173,434. This incredible sum will have a far-reaching impact, supporting important initiatives and projects within our university community. Your generosity will undoubtedly make a meaningful difference in the lives of many.

I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to every one of you who contributed to the success of the #UPGIVINGMATTERS event. Your support, enthusiasm, and generosity are the driving force behind this achievement. Together, we have shown that giving truly matters and when we come together as a community, we can achieve remarkable things.

Thank, you once again, for your incredible support. Let's continue to make a positive impact and inspire change within our university and beyond.
