Postdoctoral Discussion Forum 16 May 2023

In a captivating convergence of knowledge and innovation, the Research Enablement team of the Department of Library Services played host to a remarkable event that intended to bring together the brilliant minds of postdoctoral fellows. This event showcased the brilliance and ingenuity of our postdoctoral researchers.

The hybrid event was held on 16 May 2023 in the Research Commons at the Education, or Groenkloof Campus. The forum aimed to provide a platform for these exceptional minds to present their information needs to the Department of Library Services and for the library to discuss their available services. Furthermore, another aim was for both parties to exchange ideas on how to foster a working and beneficial relationship between them. The forum showcased the library’s commitment to fostering a vibrant intellectual community by providing a platform for postdoctoral fellows to share their cutting-edge research and engage in insightful discussions.

Despite the smaller turnout, the atmosphere was of intense intellectual engagement and deep collaboration. The forum provided an exclusive opportunity for the two attendees, Dr. Taiwo Afinowi from the Architecture Department and Dr. Harry Moongela from the Information Science Department, both accomplished postdoctoral researchers, to share their experiences with the library products and services.

The event experienced a lower attendance; however, we were pleased that the postdoctoral chairperson, Dr. Afinowi, managed to be in attendance. With his attendance, the Department of Library Services was able to engage in meaningful discussions delving into matters of research collaboration, resource allocation, and future initiatives for enhancing academic resources and services.
